1845 Pattern British Royal Navy Cutlass Dated 1847
A British 1845 pattern naval cutlass with a 27 inch (68.5cm) polished steel blade, stamped on the spine 'ENFIELD 1847 V.R'. The ricasso is stamped with the British War Department mark ' W⩚D', Enfield inspectors proof stamp of crown over 'E 53' and the Royal Navy 'N'.
The sheet steel hand guard has a riveted brass diamond shaped lozenge with '96' stamped in it (probably a rack number).
A very good example of an early dated, hard to find 1845 pattern cutlass complete with it's original black leather steel mounted scabbard.
