7th Durham Light infantry P1907 SMLE Bayonet

A WWI P1907 SMLE bayonet regimentally stamped to the pommel '7 D.L.I' for the 7th Durham Light infantry.

In 1916, the 1/7th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry (DLI) served on the Western Front as the Pioneer Battalion for the 50th (Northumbrian) Division, heavily involved in the Battle of the Somme, including the Battle of Flers-Courcelette and the Battle of Transloy. They specialized in engineering tasks, trench maintenance, and, at times, fighting as infantry.

Bayonet with a 43cm clean blade stamped with a crown over 1907, 5'16" for the date May 1916 and the makers stamp "J.A.C" (standing for James A. Chapman), the other side has the War Department broad arrow and several inspection stamps.

The bayonet is complete with it's matching serial number (517) black leather scabbard.

All in good condition.
