This is an 1845 pattern British naval cutlass with sheet steel half basket hilt with turned down back edge, ribbed iron grip and 26 inch (66cm) straight steel blade.
The blade spine is stamped 'ENFIELD' and a crown over 'V.R', the ricasso is stamped with the British War Department mark and the Enfield inspectors proof stamp of crown over 'E 53' (1853) the opposite side has the 1887 conversion stamp 'C/87'.
Good clean condition with undamaged blade.
