This is an 1845 pattern British Royal Navy cutlass with sheet steel half basket hilt with turned down back edge, ribbed iron grip and 26 inch (66cm) slightly curved steel blade.
The blade ricasso is stamped with the British War Department mark ' W⩚D' and the Enfield inspectors proof stamp of crown over 'E 53'
The opposite ricasso has the 1887 conversion stamp 'C/88'.
In good original untouched condition.
