A pattern 1888 MKII British Lee Metford bayonet stamped on the pommel '5 LAN' for the 5th Battalion The King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment.
The 5th Battalion, The King's Own (Royal Lancaster Regiment) was a Territorial Force infantry unit with headquarters in Lancaster, active notably through the First and Second World Wars. Formed in 1908, it served in major European campaigns before eventually being inactivated and amalgamated in the later 20th century.
The bayonet has a 12 inch (30.3cm) blade stamped at the ricasso with a Crown over E.R, '4 - 2' for the issue date of April 1902 and the maker name 'SANDERSON. SHEFIELD' The opposite side has the War Department broad arrow and proof mark.
A very good example, complete with it's original matching number black leather scabbard.
