A 1899 pattern cavalry troopers sword manufactured by Enfield and issued to the 13th Hussars.

Sword with 33.3 inch slightly curved spear point blade, stamped at the ricasso with “EFD” and various war department inspection stamps and spine stamped /99.

The hand guard is bowl shaped sheet steel with knot slit near pommel and pear – shaped reinforcing piece on the outside.

The inner edge of the guard is stamped “13 H” “R 57 D” and the issue date “3.1900”.

Grips are riveted leather strips.

The 13th Hussars went to South Africa for the Boer War (1899-1902), fighting at Colenso (1899), the Relief of Ladysmith (1900) and in the anti-guerrilla operations towards the end of the campaign.

Sword is in good condition with just a few nicks to the blade edge and dings to the guard as to be expected on a sword used in a war.

Lacks scabbard.
