Victorian 3rd London Rifle's Officers Sword
A 1827 pattern rifle officers sword to the 3rd London Rifles c1860.
With a slightly curved 32 ¼ inch (83cm) blade etched with bugel horn over '3rd LONDON RIFLES', crown over VR cypher and the officers name 'F.D. FISHER ESQ re'.
37 ½ inches overall.
The term "3rd London Rifles" most commonly refers to the 3rd (City of London) Battalion, The London Regiment (Royal Fusiliers). This volunteer unit was raised from railwaymen in1860 due to renewed fears of a French invasion.
The 3rd City of London Rifle Volunteer Corps, eventually becoming the 3rd (City of London) Battalion of The London Regiment in 1908.
The sword is in good overall condition with some light patina to the blade, grips are good with no damage, blade is firm to hilt, scabbard has a small dent on one side.
